Arrival

It Is Difficult To Find Us, But It Is Even More Difficult To Leave Us.

It's impossible to get to Isla de Providencia from any of the International Airports.  To reach the island you have to fly from the neighboring San Andrés Island.  One of the reasons that our island remains such an undiscovered paradise is certainly because it is hard to find.  We will provide you all necessary information, and you can contact us by e-mail with any further questions.

From San Andrés to Providencia by ship:

It is comparatively the cheapest way to get from San Andrés to Providencia.  A ferry leaves for Providencia 3 times a week.  The journey takes 5 hours and costs only 40,000 COP/ $18.  One of the 3 ships, the "Doña Olga", the "Raciman" or the "Miss Isabel," sails every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday around midnight for Providencia. Ships leave San Andrés port every time at 24:00 and reach Providencia by sunrise. But you have to be ready for departure by 22:00 to find a comfortable seat.  This is not the most comfortable way to travel, as the vessel rolls atop every wave.  But if you can fall asleep at the outset, the time will pass like it would on a plane. The sunrise on board the ship will reward you for the cold and wet night as you enter the harbor. The ship’s advantage is clear - it allows you to take a lot of baggage with you.  But put on some warm clothes as the night’s weather on the open sea is rather cool. A sweater and long trousers will be just fine.  Please do not forget to take along something to eat and to drink as there will be no opportunity to have a bite until in the morning in Providencia.

To travel by ship you have to put yourself on the list of passengers.  It can be done in the Chamber of Commerce (Spanish: cámara de comercio) in the center of San Andrés. Its office is located near the port in the same building where the post office is. Best of all to get there by “Mototaxi” (Motorcycle taxi); it only costs 1,000 COP/ $0.45. One more way to come on board is to speak with the ship's captain in port. Ask the Mototaxi driver to take you to the harbor where the ships to Providencia sail from. Taxi drivers always know this place. If you're looking for something else you can also ask the taxi driver about it as well.
